Should i have an SSL Certificate on my website?
If you are running an e-commerce website or accepting payments through your site it is highly advisable to have a SSL certificate. SSL certificates provide a secure connection between your web server to browser. By having an SSL certificate your providing your customers with TRUST and some comfort that there transaction are taking place on a secure server. If you don’t have the nice green padlock and the https:// at the top of your browser you may lose some customers who just aren’t willing to take the risk of using your site for purchases.
If your site takes memberships or they need to submit personal information again an SSL certificate should provide more trustability and might help increase interaction on your site.
If your running a blog or have a simple showcase website without taking client information it might not be necessary.
One thing worth noting is that a lot of web hosting providers may now provide free SSL certificates or at a low cost. It’s worth asking your hosting provider.
